- Enhance Your Skills: Move beyond performance to master the art of teaching, learning effective communication and instructional techniques.

- Increase Your Earning Potential: Certified teachers can often command higher rates and attract more dedicated students.
Your Pathway to Certification
We provide comprehensive support and training to help you achieve qualifications from Australia’s most esteemed music examination boards.
AGMS
Australian Guild of Music & Speech
AGMS is primarily an examination and certification body, delivering graded and diploma exams in music and speech—ranging from Certificates to Fellowships—but not formal training courses for teachers per se.Wikipediaagms.edu.au
For aspiring music educators, AGMS offers:
- Certificate – Teacher of Music (C.T.Mus.AGMS)
- Associate – Teacher of Music (A.T.Mus.AGMS)
- Licentiate – Teacher of Music (L.T.Mus.AGMS) These are pedagogically oriented qualifications aimed at studio teaching proficiency.
Assessments typically include both practical and written components.
Scholarships are available for all three levels (C, A, and L).
Importantly, AGMS split from the vocational/tertiary provider Australian Guild of Music Education (AGME) in 2024, so their offerings now focus solely on exam-based diplomas rather than pathways to degrees.
AMEB
Australian Music Examinations Board
AMEB also serves as Australia’s premier exam board for music, speech, and drama, offering both performance certifications and teaching diplomas.
- Since 2024, AMEB introduced a new Teaching Syllabus, offering two formal teaching qualifications:
- Certificate Teacher of Music Australia (CTMusA)
- Associate Teacher of Music Australia (ATMusA)
- The existing Licentiate Teacher of Music Australia (LTMusA) remains available under the old syllabus until 2030.
Structure and Requirements:
- CTMusA and ATMusA involve written submissions, a teaching folio, and practical exams, usually to be completed within six years (recommended within two for continuity).
- LTMusA requires completion of ATMusA first (or equivalent) and additional evidence such as recent student exam reports with good grades.
Supporting Resources:
- AMEB offers complementary resources including:
- A free Teaching Guide to Assessment (2023)
- A Companion Text (2023, paid)
- A series of Teaching Skills Videos, led by Dr. Jennifer Blackwell and others, providing PD certificates and aligning with the new teaching syllabus
