Andante Music Studio’s Responsibilities

Andante Music Studio (AMS) is committed to providing a professional and trustworthy music education experience. Our primary goal is to offer students the most comprehensive music learning journey possible, exposing them to various music styles, technology, and creative exploration.
Lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, goals, and musical interests. At AMS, we encourage curiosity and creativity, fostering a love for music that lasts a lifetime.

Student & Parent Responsibilities

To ensure a productive learning experience, students and parents should adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Lesson Preparedness: Students must arrive on time, with the correct materials, and having completed their weekly practice. Practice should be goal-oriented rather than just filling time.
  • Practice Routine: Setting aside consistent daily practice is key to musical progress. Whether it’s first thing in the morning or another routine time that works best, making practice a habit will help students build skills and confidence.
  • Lesson Progression: Teachers will only move forward in lesson materials when students are adequately prepared. Regular practice prevents discouragement and maintains learning momentum.
  • Parent Involvement: Parents can track progress via My Music Staff, where weekly worksheets, instructions, audio tracks, and other resources are available. Parents of students under 12 should review assignments and provide encouragement. Younger students may need guidance during practice sessions.
  • Instrument Requirements: Students should have a quality instrument for practice. Acoustic pianos should be under 50 years old and regularly tuned. Digital pianos should feature a solid wooden stand, three pedals, an adjustable padded bench, and fully weighted action keys. Contact Miss Liz for assistance in selecting an instrument.
  • Performance & Engagement: Parents are encouraged to listen to at least 1-2 practice sessions per week to help students gain confidence in playing for others and feel proud of their progress.

If vacations or extenuating circumstances prevent practice, students should still attend lessons to receive guidance and regain motivation.elines:

Studio Calendar

Andante Music Studio (AMS) follows the NSW Public School Term Calendar. If your child attends a private school, their term dates may differ, so please mark your calendar accordingly.

Payment Information

Tuition fees cover more than just lesson time—they also account for preparation, resources, and ongoing operational costs, including:

  • Personalized course planning for each student
  • Professional training & experience
  • Memberships in professional music organizations
  • Insurance & GST
  • Printing, scanning, and copying materials

Cashless Payments

AMS operates as a cashless studio. All payments are processed via GoCardless (bank account direct debit) or Stripe (credit card payments—note that Stripe payments may incur a surcharge). You can also process payments directly from your bank account to avoid any fees.

Payment Options

Term Payments: Fees are invoiced per term and must be paid by the end of Week 1 of each term.

Monthly Payments: Yearly tuition fees (including deposit) are totalled and divided into 11 equal monthly payments (January to November). If a student starts later in the year, the number of lessons is adjusted accordingly.

Deposits

  • Upon enrolment deposit of the value of two lessons will be charged, that is to make sure that terms notice is provided, should you wish to cancel the lessons. Upon the completion of enrolment with Andante Music Studio deposit will be deducted of your last bill, providing that the requested notice period is provided.
  • For students on Term invoices – deposit of value of one lesson is charged in term 4, to hold spot for the student for following year. That deposit is then deducted of fees in Term 1 of the following year.

Cancellation Policy

If your child will no longer continue lessons, please provide one term’s notice so we can suspend direct debit payments and finalize any outstanding fees.

Creative Kids Voucher

To apply the Creative Kids Voucher, please submit it as soon as possible so fees can be adjusted accordingly.

Books, Study Materials & Exams

  • Books & Study Materials: These are invoiced separately, as costs vary based on the student’s level and required materials.
  • Exam Fees: Exam fees are also invoiced separately, as they depend on the level of examination undertaken.

Late Payment Policy

If fees are not paid on time, a late fee of $10 per week will be applied until the outstanding amount is settled. To avoid late fees please contact the office to discuss any financial issues.

Missed Lessons & Makeup Lessons

AMS (Andante Music Studio) does not offer refunds for missed lessons due to forgetfulness, illness, or holidays. However, exceptions may be made for prolonged illness or extenuating circumstances, determined on an individual basis.

AMS strives to be flexible by offering makeup lessons for missed and charged lessons, but rescheduling depends on teacher availability (e.g., breaks or other cancellations). Makeup lessons may be offered at short notice.

  • No makeups for scheduling confusion: If a lesson is missed due to a scheduling mix-up, a makeup lesson will not be provided.
  • Advance notice for absences: If there is a clash with school events or family activities, at least 24 hours’ notice is required. Only one advised absence per term may be eligible for a makeup lesson, provided the 24-hour notice was given.
  • No makeups on makeup lessons: If a student misses their scheduled makeup class, the lesson is forfeited. Please mark it in your calendar to avoid missing it.

Health & Safety

Sick Students: If a student is visibly unwell and contagious, AMS requires them to stay home. If a student attends while ill, they will be sent home to protect other students and teachers

Studio House Rules

  • No food allowed: Some students are at risk of anaphylaxis, so food is not permitted in the studio.
  • Only student to attend the lesson – we ask for NO siblings, grandparents, aunties and other family members to attend lessons as it becomes too disruptive for the child. All extended family members will have a chance to see children performing during our annual showcase.
  • Parents are welcome to observe lesson in the last week of term to engage in their child’s learning experience and get an update from the teacher, during the lesson, should they wish so.
  • Cancellation Policy: Lessons cancelled within 24 hours or no-shows will be forfeited, as teachers prepare for each lesson in advance.
  • Child Safety Policy: AMS follows strict child-safe policies, and all staff have valid Working with Children checks. Certificate numbers are available upon request.
  • Speaking with Teachers: If parents wish to discuss their child’s progress, please book an appointment or speak to the teacher before your child’s lesson (not during another student’s lesson).

Concerts, Workshops & Recitals

Concerts: AMS holds annual concerts, where students can perform voluntarily. While students are not charged, ticket sales help cover production costs to keep events affordable.

Workshops: Pre-exam workshops help students prepare for exams. While participation is strongly recommended, conflicts should be communicated as soon as possible to arrange alternatives. Workshops have a small fee to cover costs.

Recitals: AMS run recitals at call throughout the year for students to perform in front of small, friendly audiences. Recitals provide valuable experience and help build performance confidence.

Parental Involvement

Parents play a critical role in their child’s music education.

  • Access to Lesson Notes: Parents can review lesson progress notes and teacher feedback 24/7 via the My Music Staff portal. Upon joining AMS all parents get invitation to create  logins for their kids to be able to track notes and any other communication.
  • Monitoring Practice: If a student hasn’t practiced, this will be noted by the teachers.
Practice Logging: Using the portal to track practice helps maintain steady progress.
  • Commitment to Practice: Without regular practice at home, progress will be limited. Parents should ensure their child follows assignments and develops a consistent practice routine, as outlined in Studio Policies.
  • Speaking with Teachers: If parents wish to discuss progress, they must schedule an appointment to avoid disrupting another student’s lesson.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do we need an instrument?

Yes, your child will need an instrument to practice at home.

Absolutely! Regular practice is essential for progress. Parents should aim to be involved in practice sessions, as it’s a great opportunity to strengthen the parent-child bond through music.

Beginners: 10 minutes twice a day

Intermediate: 20 minutes twice a day

Advanced students: 30 minutes twice a day

Practicing first thing in the morning works well for many students, but any consistent daily time is fine. The key is to establish a routine that fits your schedule.

Place the instrument in a room where your child will not be interrupted, by other family members
If using a portable keyboard, keep it set up permanently to avoid hassle.
Avoid the TV room, or ensure the TV is switched off during practice.

Your attitude towards practice plays a huge role in your child’s success.

  • Focus on progress, not perfection
  • Be encouraging and create a reward system
  • Stick to a routine to develop a positive approach toward music education
  • Putting aside same time everyday will help to maintain the routine

There are various reasons a child may become disengaged:

  1. The music is too difficult
  2. The music is too easy
  3. Music lessons interfere with playtime
  4. Missed lessons disrupt progress
  5. The instrument is not appropriate
  6. The child fears performing
  7. Schoolwork is becoming challenging
  8. High parental expectations create pressure

If you notice any signs of frustration, talk to the teacher immediately to address any concerns. Open communication ensures that your child continues to enjoy their musical journey.
